[NDIL] Shareef was sentenced to 35 years in prison for attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction in connection with a plot to set off hand grenades at the CherryVale shopping mall in Rockford, Illinois, in December 2006 as part of a plan to commit "violent jihad" against civilians. Shareef also sought to target Jewish synagogues in retaliation for the 2006 Israeli war in Lebanon.
