[DDC] In September 2000, a lawsuit was brought against the Islamic Republic of Iran by family members and estates of servicemen killed in the 1996 terrorist attack on Khobar Towers, a U.S. military housing complex near Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. In 2009 the court ordered in favor of the plaintiffs, granting specified damage amounts for each. In August 2011, a federal judge ruled that the plaintiffs can garnish funds that Sprint Nextel Corp. owes to a state-owned Iranian telecommunications company.
