Luqman Abdullah, imam of the Masjid al-Haqq in Detroit, was killed when federal agents tried to arrest him and 10 alleged co-conspirators on Oct. 28, 2009. The group is accused of theft from interstate shipments, mail fraud involving arson and illegal possession and sale of firearms. Prosecutors say they are part of a movement of African-American converts to Islam, who want a separate Sharia-law governed state within the United States. They want that state led by Jamil Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, who was convicted in 2002 of killing a Georgia police officer.
