Philly Meeting 2 generally discusses Palestinian activism in the U.S.
The transcript begins with UM3 encouraging the participants not to retreat from their initial position: "we must remain steadfast on our Islamic position and work under pressure in order to strengthen the Islamic voice for Palestine." UM3 also suggests that the group "bring leaders from America to the surface instead of continuing to rely on people from abroad" and create U.S. programs and organizations to win and support the Muslim and Palestinian youth.
Next, Gawad speaks on the 6 axes of activism in the U.S.
- planning
- missionary ( for "Islamic call")
- political
- media
- financial
- human (includes "human rights groups")
After this there are a series of exchanges in which Nihad pressures Omar Ahmad to start us a new organization in Washington. Om comments that "one of the problems of the Palestinian community and the Arab community in general here is that they are overlapping each other." When Om comments that this organization is a longer term goal Nihad fires back: "These are things you must think about beginning today. Otherwise, when are you going to start thinking about them?"
There is some talk about the national organization and the amount of support needed, including human and financial.
There is some disjointed discussion after this including topics such as holding conferences with Islamic leaders, regardless of their viewpoints, and a decision is made not to talk about the IAP in Canada during this session.
The transcript ends with talk of the days' sessions and whether or not all topics were adequately covered. A general consensus is made that there are some sessions that still need to talk place and that a more advance notice of the meetings in the future would be helpful for member preparation.
