Philly Meeting 5 deals with the IAP's budget issues and avoiding overtly Islamic themes and wording in order to promote the participants' causes.
The meeting begins with some small talk and discussion of the meeting's schedule of presentations. Omar Ahmad finally decides for the group that several presentations still need to be made and UM2 begins his presentation. The unidentified man brings some budget challenges to light. He says that "the IAP and its resources are limited and what limits them is the budget." He continues on to tell the others Muslims in America must be made aware of what they can do to help. He also discusses the policy of "non-opposition to peace as a settlement" and gives an example: "Someone will ask you: ‘Are you against peace?' Tell him, ‘No. We are not opposed to peace as a peace but we are against hypocrisy because this peace is not just. We are with all just peace. Justice with peace.'" UM2 continues on to talk about the importance of increasing the awareness of imams, sheiks, "educated segments," and students for the cause. He mentions the following groups that could be of potential use in spreading the message of the IAP: MAS, ICNA, ISNA, MAYA, and Al Zaytouna. He talks about the importance of "investment on the inside" and using these groups to raise awareness of the importance of this.
Abdel Halim briefly talks about educating the inside. He insists that material about Palestine should be provided by the IAP on the inside.
Gawad follows up saying, "I'm working on the Jihad, support the Jihad, support the Jihad, support the resistance to the occupation!"
Next Shukri Abu Baker speaks about downplaying the Islamic aspect of the IAP and Hamas' goals. He explains, "Let's not hoist a large Islamic flag and let's not be barbaric talking. We will remain a front so that if the thing happens, we will benefit from the new happenings instead of having all of our organizations classified and exposed." He continues with an example, instead of calling Al Aqsa its name he suggests referring to it as the "Palestinian General Education Academy," so as to remove the Islamic name from the title. Baker again suggests the members "begin thinking about establishing alternative organizations which can benefit from a new atmosphere, ones whose Islamic hue is not very conspicuous."
The transcript ends with UM1 reminding attendees, "don't forget that America is a front. America has a Palestinian community."
