USA v. Hasan, Nidal Malik
Fort Hood, TX
Homegrown
[Fort Hood, TX] On November 5, 2009, Major Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire on fellow soldiers at the Fort Hood military base in Texas killing 13 people and wounding 30 others. Hasan, a Muslim psychiatrist in a hospital at the military base, shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) before opening fire. The attack took place at the Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers are prepared for overseas deployment. In August 2013, a military jury sentenced Major Nidal Hasan to death. In September 2023, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces rejected Hasan's motion to reverse his death sentence after not finding enough merits to his arguments to grant his motion.
