Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a naturalized American from Somalia, is accused of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Mohamud allegedly tried to detonate a bomb at a Christmas tree lighting event in Portland, but it was inert. Undercover FBI agents posed as confederates in Mohamud's plot. Mohamud was sentenced to 30 years' in prison followed by a lifetime of term of supervised release for attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction (explosives) in connection with the plot.
