State of New York v. Ferhani et ano. ("Manhattan Synagogue Plot")
New York, NY
Homegrown
A Manhattan grand jury indicted Ahmed Ferhani and Mohamed Mamdouh in June 2011 with hate crime and weapons charges related to a plot to attack Jews and Jewish targets in N.Y. Prosecutors dropped an initial charge of second degree conspiracy as a crime of terrorism from the complaint filed a month earlier. According to the indictment, the men discussed blowing up N.Y. synagogues with an undercover source. In preparation for the plot, Ferhani purchased weapons from an informant. In March 2013, Ferhani was sentenced to 10 years for his role in the plot to attack NY synagogues.
