Mohamed Anas Haitham Soueid is accused of spying on anti-government protests for the Syrian Mukhabarat intelligence service. The six-count indictment charges him with conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government, acting as an agent of a foreign government and with making false statements to law enforcement. Soueid was sentenced to 18 months in prison for acting as an unregistered agent of the Syrian government.
