State of New York v. Pimentel, Jose
Harlem, NY
Al Qaeda
Jose Pimentel was charged with providing support to terrorism, conspiracy, and weapons offenses. Pimentel was arrested for plotting to bomb police stations and post offices in the New York area as well as U.S. troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Authorities allege Pimentel was inspired by al-Qaida's U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and in fact accelerated his plan to make bombs following Awlaki's killing in a U.S. drone strike in September 2011. In February 2014, Pimental admitted to plotting a terrorist attack using a pipeline.
