[SDFL] Raees Alam Qazi, a 20-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan, and his brother, Sheheryar Alam Qazi (Sheheryar), a 30-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan were charged in a two-count indictment with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction. Both men are residents of Oakland Park, in Broward County, Fla. In June 2015, Raees Qazi was sentenced to 35 years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release and Sheheryar Qazi to 20 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. In March 2015, Raees Qazi plead guilty to one count of conspiring to provide material support and resources to terrorists in preparation for the use of a weapon of mass destruction, one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, and one count of conspiring to assault a federal employee. Sherheyar Qazi plead guilty to one count of conspiring to provide material support and resources to terrorists in preparation for the use of a weapon of mass destruction and one count of conspiring to assault a federal employee. In June 2016, Raees Qazi filed an appeal of his conviction and punishment.
