USA v. Greene, Daniela
Detroit, MI
Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)
[DDC] Daniela Greene, an FBI translator with a top-secret clearance working in Detroit, MI, traveled to Syria in 2014 and married a key Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) operative she had been assigned to investigate. Greene lied to the FBI about where she was going and warned her new husband that he was under investigation. Upon realizing she had made a terrible mistake, Greene fled back to the U.S., where she was immediately arrested and agreed to cooperate with authorities. She pleaded guilty to making false statements involving international terrorism and was sentenced to two years in federal prison. She was released in the summer of 2016.
