Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)
[SDFL] Samuel Baptiste of Miami, Florida was charged with four counts of online distribution of information pertaining to explosives and one count of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). The indictment alleged that Baptiste posted and distributed online documents titled "Instructions: How to Make a Homemade Pipe Bomb," "Pipe Bombs," "Improvised Explosive Devices," and "Improvised Munitions Black Book, Volume 1," with the intent that the information be used for and in furtherance of an activity that constitutes a Federal crime of violence. Moreover, by posting these documents, Baptiste attempted to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization, specifically ISIS. Baptiste pled guilty in federal district court in October 2021 to attempting to materially support terrorism. He was sentenced in January 2022 to 15 years in prison for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State.
