What do you do when the monster you described to everyone as a clear and present danger that must be protected against at ANY costs turns out to be not so clear and present? You either recognize that your estimates were way off and change your response to something of a much smaller scale or you open up the defenses a little and hope and pray the monster can get through and rip people limb from limb so that you can justify your (incorrect) estimates and continue to build an ever larger monster of your own......to defend against the first monster, of course.
