Since only Muslims perpetrate killings in the name of family 'honor', investigation of this barbaric practice is perforce limited to the Muslim communities. Female Genital Mutilation is another such practice.

However, their objection is not rooted in the alleged racism of Canadian (and other Western, civilized) societies but rather the injunction under Shari'a that Islam (and by extension, Muslims) cannot be criticized. This approach is an attack on Western values of equality under the law; they expect exemptions.

Then they will argue that Islam does not condone honor killings (but then, neither does it condemn them). It is custom only (but so pervasive that it is darn near universal), but it cannot be said to be Islamic. Neat trick: everybody does it, but it is not formally sanctioned.
