Poor Qanta! She means well, but she just does not get it. There are definitely "radical Muslims" and "radical Islamists", but there is no such thing as "radical Islam". Islam is the belief system, the body of doctrines and commands from the Koran and the Sunnah, and it is what it is. The "radicals" are the ones who follow that belief system most closely, and the "moderates", like Qanta, are those Moslems who deviate from the commands in the Koran and the Sunnah. There are lots of Moslems who do not follow the jihadist and misogynist commands in Islam's sacred texts, but those sacred commands do not change merely because people like Qanta refuse to follow them. The Islamic threat exists because those jihadist commands are taught and preached in every mosque, and there will always be Moslems who take those commands seriously. Those are the "radicals".
A religion is peaceful if its most fundamentalist and literalist adherents are peaceful; and a religion is violent if its most fundamentalist and literalist adherents are violent. That is the case with Islam.
