Masjid Al-Islam
Oakland, CA
Amir Abdel Malik Ali, the CEO and imam of Masjid Al-Islam,[1] has espoused radical rhetoric in the defense of suicide bombers, while justifying their terrorist attacks and praising them as "freedom fighters." At a speech given at University of California-Irvine in February 2005, Malik Ali stated:
"They don't tell you that the military in the Apartheid State of Israel, travel around-are moved around from place to place on buses! On buses. Yes those same buses, that they say they use for public transportation; those are the same exact buses that they use to transport, transfer military and reservists. Do you think they say that? No. So when the freedom fighters, who are after those buses, they're going after soldiers who are on those buses, at least reservists who are on those buses!"[2] [emphasis added]
Furthermore, at a separate speaking engagement at UC-Irvine, Malik Ali has stated, when speaking about the Muslim fight for "self-determination" against Western imperialism:
"And we're gonna fight, [the United States and Israel] and we're gonna win. And it's gonna be either victory or martyrdom; that's how it goes."[emphasis added]
Malik Ali has also praised Hamas and the terrorist group's former leaders Sheikh Yassin and Sheikh Rantisi:
"But, you gotta admit, when Hamas won last week, didn't you feel good about that? And then, didn't you think about the Yahood [Jews]? Because remember the Israeli government was trying to hard to destroy Hamas? Our beloved Sheikh Yassin was martyred, and then Sheikh Rantisi was martyred after him."[3] [emphasis added]
There is no criminal activity linked to this mosque.
